Kerr Lake and Longwood Park

Posted on July 17, 2007

I was meeting a few friends in Chase City for a Skeet tournament on Sunday so that give me a good excuse to head down to Kerr Lake a couple of days early for a little camping and paddling. Plus, I had a new kayak to try out – a Wilderness Systems Tsunami 140.

Based on some trip reports found at Doggie Paddling the Triangle, I decided to check out Longwood Park near Clarksville. It’s a very nice facility – clean, quiet, and well-maintained. I wound up with a site right on the lake.

A friend joined me later that evening and we managed to get out on the water in time to enjoy the sunset before fixing dinner. On Saturday morning we headed south and unfortunately, stopped a couple hundred feet short of the North Carolina state line – almost exactly 7 miles.
