I’ve always been a race fan but in recent years I’ve really bumped up my fanaticism to include more types of racing with an emphasis on attending sports car (IMSA and SRO) and motorcycle (MotoAmerica) race weekends. I made 21 trips and outings in 2023. I’m off to a slightly slower start this year but hope to ramp it up a bit in the next few months.
The Virginia State Parks have a challenge called Trail Quest that rewards you for visiting the 40 parks participating in the program. You simply log your visit at the website and then receive a pin for your 1st, 5th, 10th, 20th, and 40th park. My recent visit to Staunton River earned my 10 visit pin.
Several years ago I undertook my first major renovation for my 2006 Aliner Sportliner. I basically replaced the table and cabinet tops, which were beginning to warp as particle board is prone to do, and resurfaced the cabinet faces to undo some modifications made by the previous owner. I spent my second weekend at Bear Creek Lake State Park – this time to participate in a Saturday morning conference in Lynchburg. About an hour from Cumberland County, it’s a nice drive to Lynchburg and, following the conference, I took the opportunity to drop by the Appomattox Court House NHS and bag another stamp.
