Back Bay NWR from Horn Point to Indian Cove Resort

Posted on July 10, 2007

Not knowing what the 4th of July weekend would be like, I decided to get out early Sunday morning and head down to Back Bay. One of the launch sites is only about 15 miles from the house, so I was on the water by 9AM. Nice and quiet – even for a holiday weekend. I only saw 3 or 4 power boats and 2 other kayakers. I wound up paddling almost exactly 5 miles in about 2 hours.

I’ve determined that if you’ve actually got a specific place you’d like to end up (especially if you’ve never been there before), you better have good maps and a GPS. Everything looks the same when your butt is basically below the water line. My intent was to get up to those areas in the upper-right corner of the map. As you can see, I headed north too early. Oh well, now I know – maybe next time.
