Garmin Now Supports Amazon Music
It’s pointless (and probably not even possible) to give a more in-depth review than DC Rainmaker so I’m not going to waste my time. Suffice it to say that adding another music service to those already available on Garmin wearables is a pretty big deal. With the addition of Amazon Music, Garmin now offers more streaming services than any other brand.
It’s also important to note that you don’t have to have one of Amazon’s premium plans such as Amazon Music Unlimited. A regular Prime membership will give you access to over two million songs. More than enough to get you through even your longest run!
I’ve used both Deezer and Spotify on my vivoactive 3 Music and Forerunner 245 Music and had no issues at all so I suspect Amazon Music will work just as well. I’ll give it try in the next day or two update the post with any observations.
Update
A couple of things to add now that I’ve had a chance to actually install Amazon Music on my Forerunner 245 Music and vivoactive 3 Music. As DCR points out, Amazon Music does require the watch’s time to be set via GPS but it’s not only those devices straight out of the box. My vivoactive 3 Music hadn’t been used in a couple of weeks and Amazon Music wouldn’t begin the setup process until there was a GPS sync. No big deal. I just started a “Running” activity, waited until I got the green light for GPS lock, went back to the Amazon Music app and continued the setup without issue.
Secondly, although Amazon Prime is sufficient to have access to over 2 million songs, that doesn’t mean that all the songs within a pre-made playlist will be eligible. I selected one of the “Workout” playlists and got “Amazon Music Unlimited is required” notice during the download. It loaded 18 songs but I haven’t inspected the playlist to see if it loaded all the eligible songs or simply stopped on the first one that requires the premium subscription.
