Kayaking Southern Back Bay NWR
I decided to kick off the weekend a bit early and do a little paddling Friday afternoon. I also wanted to check out another Back Bay launch site so I headed down to the Princess Anne Wildlife Management Area. It’s a nice site, plenty of parking, with about a 3/4 mile canal out to the bay.
The wind was out of the southeast at about 15 knots so there was some pretty good chop out on the bay. I decided to head directly into the wind toward the southern tip of an island that I believe is called Pocohontas Marsh. I would have loved to paddle all the way around the island but I didn’t really feel like dealing with that southeast wind for an additional 2 miles. Letting the island block the wind, I just meandered the north side and then headed back. A nice, relaxing, 6 mile afternoon on the water.
